We got engaged 4/30/2016. We attended a bridal expo and Wedding Cafe workshop. Got some idea on vendors and prices. Boy is weddings expensive. Our budget is $15,000 including honeymoon. Hopefully this is possible!!!mzjennxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15436482885231596483noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-81926533299074398872015-11-04T15:37:00.002-10:002015-11-04T16:01:04.658-10:00What have you been up to for the past year?Hi. Where have I been? I am around. Just working a full time job as a clinic nurse and mommy. Lack of free time means no time for myself to blog... that is ok. Life is more important than the internet.<br />
<br />
So since my last update I have been working in Ophthalmology as an advise nurse. Working in the clinic is different from hospital. I miss the patient care, crazy patients, my bond with my cancer patients, the RRT/codes. I don't miss the stress. Working in the clinic is a different kind of stress. Call volume is high. Sometimes it seems like there are no appointments. It can be stressful trying to figure out what eye problem a patient may have and which provider it should go to: Optometry or Ophthalmology. Eye anatomy is complex and most people who have an eye/vision problem don't take it lightly and want to be seen ASAP.<br />
<br />
There are 3 RNs that work in Ophthalmology. We book appointments for 3 clinics and sometimes book for neighbor islands. Couple months after I started, my nurse supervisor retired, one of the RN left, then the former charge nurse got promoted to supervisor. It got so busy and hectic I felt like it was just me working because the new supervisor was busy doing other department tasks.
I don't know how I made it work, but I did. I became a
stronger, better nurse because I had to learn fast to keep up with calls. If I was slow, we would get complaints. If I was not on it and did not follow up with patients, we would get complaints. I did not want any complaints. It's a good thing I am a fast typer. I had to learn to listen and type at the same time and move on to the next call. Sometimes I could take 50-90 calls in a day!<br />
<br />
After my former charge nurse got promoted, she started training me to become charge nurse. We hired 3 other RN and since I am the senior of the department by default I became charge. It is a new role for me. I feel like a crazy women juggling with knives and fire. I am still learning. My biggest headache about this job is reassigning staff assignment. We are short handed by 2 Ophthalmologist, 1 LPN and 1 ophthalmic assistant. It is nice to have 3 new RN, I can use them doing procedures or in clinic, but that would mean they are not on the phones. They are trying their best to keep up. I am just grateful they are flexible. <br />
<br />
This job is stressful but it works for me now. I have a normal day shift life and I can spend more time with my family. Is this the job I will stay till I retire? I am not sure. I still think about going back to school and finishing my Master's to become a Clinical Nurse Specialist. I started before I got pregnant, but I had a hard time juggling night shift work and the online class. I guess I was not too motivated. Now with a baby not sure if I could do it... I guess this is not the right time for school. I would rather focus on my family. I have a little girl to raise and she is my reason I decided to get a day shift job.JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-22630186780589894052014-09-22T10:58:00.001-10:002015-11-04T15:38:02.357-10:005 years of service<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

I decided to leave my part-time night shift oncology nursing job and take on a new job as a full time day shift clinic nurse. I will be doing advise nursing in the <span style="color: black;">ophthalmology</span> clinic.<br>
<br>
Making this decision was very difficult. I love working in oncology. I learned a lot and I love the people I work with. It has been very emotionally draining to be at work. Working with really really sick and dying patients was taking a toll on me. Plus the lack of sleep from working nights. I wanted to have a normal life.<br>
<br>
When my sister who is my sitter for my baby decided to take a full time job, I decided maybe it is time to make the change too. To be honest I was not sure what I was getting into. I know I wanted to have a day shift job, but I want sure if I wanted to leave my unit. I applied to a handful of positions. I had a callback for 4!!!<div>
<br>I interviewed for 3 positions: clinic, care coordinator/case manager, nurse reviewer. I <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">finally told my boss about my applications. She was disappointed to hear I was considering to leave. I was thinking of staying and waiting for a day shift on my unit to open, but realize I did not want to continue giving chemo and deal with stress and drama. My biggest reason to leave was for me. I was thinking about when I was pregnant and how high my blood pressure was from the stress of work and nights. I have a family now and if I want to be around for them and have more babies I need to stop working here!!!</span></div><div><br></div><div>I received an offer for all 3 positions. I was torn to which one I should get!!! I also got a call back to interview for the breast cancer care coordinator. I decided not to interview at this time. I examined the pro and cons of each jobs and decided it would be better to take the clinic job. I would rather deal with traffic because it is farther away from home so that I can I can be on day shift, Monday to Friday, some Saturday on, holidays off, same pay and protected by nursing labor contract with full time benefits for medical dental vacation and sick pay.<br><br>
It is bittersweet to leave however I am looking forward to the change. I am looking forward to the new opportunity.</div>JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-76667321472310553952014-08-13T13:57:00.000-10:002014-09-23T09:18:16.174-10:00Weightloss Journey: 808 Happy and HealthyI do not always update my blog, but I did make a fan page about my weight loss journey and tips on being happy and healthy. <br />

I tried to
do a running schedule to run at least 3x a week, but being a new mom, working night shif is tough. At least I tried!!!JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-51145420604280491272014-02-13T17:37:00.002-10:002014-02-13T17:38:22.020-10:00How does a mommy balance it all?How do you balance taking care of a baby, cleaning, cooking, working and above all save money? I work part-time so I work 3-4 days which mean I get 3-4 days off. My days off goes by so fast. I need to figure out how you mommies do it.<br />
<br />
Looking back at my grandma and mommy, it is definitely hard to balance it all. My mom worked 3 jobs one point of her life to put my sister and I in preschool. My mom would work full time her day job, part time evening shift and on the weekend. My mom or dad would drop us off to school. After school we went to after school program then my mom would pick us up and drop us off at my grandparent's house so she could go to her evening job. I spent a lot of time at my grandparent's house with my cousins. I was lucky to have a great grandma who cooked a home cook Filipino meal every night. My dad would then pick us up from our grandparent's house to go home. On the weekend when my mom was not working her full time job she spent it doing laundry, cleaning. If she cook it was a big pot that could last a couple days. As children, my sister and I had to help do chores around the house since our parents were so busy. We were good kids...<br />
<br />
Me and my sister were talking about how this and I am trying to figure out solutions to making life easier.<br />
<br />
1. Cleaning schedule. On my days off instead of spending all day cleaning I will break up tasks during the week so that I am still able to go out and hang out.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
Everyday:</div>
<div>
Clean Bottle and dishes</div>
<div>
Wipe down kitchen and table surfaces</div>
<div>
Sweep kitchen and carpet</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Days off</div>
<div>
Day 1: Laundry and bathroom </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Day 2: vacuum, mop, dust, doors and light switch</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
*Once a month </div>
<div>
Clean out fridge</div>
<div>
Sanitize Trash can</div>
<div>
Organize mail and receipts </div>
<div>
Ac and dryer vents </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
*Once a year clean</div>
<div>
January: Organize personal files</div>
<div>
organize cabinets, drawers, closets</div>
<div>
Fans </div>
<div>
Blinds and Curtains </div>
<div>
Light fixtures </div>
<div>
Stains off Carpet </div>
<div>
hard to reach </div>
<div>
Appliances</div>
<div>
Windows and outdoor</div>
<div>
Garage </div>
<div>
Toss expired medicine and foods</div>
<div>
December: Donate clothes </div>
<br />
2. Budgeting. The hardest thing to do, but since I got a new car and after my tax return is done I can pay off some bills and figure out how to free up some unnecessary spending.<br />
<br />
3. Meal planning, freezer and slow cooker meals.<br />
<br />
4. Continue to work out... haha hope I can.</div>

I'm a little nervous since I'm a new mom and wondering how I will schedule runs/exercise, chores, breastfeeding, pumping and now work. It has been a challenge trying to juggle the new life changes.<br />
<br />
My goals for this GAR<br />
1. run in the morning before my BF goes to work and while my sister is here babysitting baby<br />
2. walk daily with dogs and baby or with my sister and the babies<br />
3. when not walking try to do exercise video, Jillian Micheal's 30 day shed<br />
<br />
Before I gave birth, I weight about 185 pounds. I am now 166-169 pounds. I need a little push, so hopefully I can get down to my pre-pregnancy weight of 159-164.JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-19443112025528302142013-12-25T12:12:00.000-10:002014-01-30T12:18:59.158-10:00Merry Christmas<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This week we have decided to stop using the shield. I took a chance and we have been quite successful. She has been sucking better. Only problems is she spits up a lot, but not to worry she pee and poop a lot! Have a great Holiday!!!</div>
JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-55562982480129331732013-12-12T06:50:00.001-10:002014-01-30T12:18:42.028-10:00Breastfeeding update: 8 weeksAfter 9 weeks of maternity leave I finally went back to work. It is so bittersweet. I would love to stay home with my baby but we gotta work. Thank God I'm not full time anymore. My hours at work is enough and I still have time to spend with my baby. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My sister has been babysitting and she has been a great sitter. She is very patient with her. When I come home from work I will breastfeed or pump, spend time with baby, exercise, eat then sleep. Only problem I have since I have been back to work is the breastfeeding and pumping routine. I have a oversupply of milk because of the extra pumping I have been doing. My freezer has the proof of my pumping efforts. I have a good stockpile of milk since baby doesn't need supplement milk. We give her a bottle a day with her vitamins or if we are out in public.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My fear was when I went back to work that my milk supply would decrease or baby would not want to breastfeed. My supply is not going anywhere as my baby enjoys breastfeeding. So I <span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">only pump for work and exclusively breastfeeds when baby and I are together. I have been more engorge more often since we are not pumping as much as before. So hopefully my supply will regulate and I won't have to pump just to relieve the engorgement. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">I am now </span>less shy to breastfeed in public. I have breastfeed in the car, dressing room and restaurant. The breastfeeding cover is my best friend!!! Thanks God I'm surround by my family who supports breastfeeding!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We have been determine to keep breastfeeding even if it is with the shield. The shield has saved us from giving up so soon. Now that I'm back at work hopefully we can maintain the milk supply so she can breastfeed for 6 months or more and stop pumping extra.</div>

Since she was a late preterm I have been trying to breastfeed but her latch is sometimes good and sometimes bad. Since she was in NICU I did not spend too much time breastfeeding since we only had 30 minutes outside the isolate for feeds. She had feeding problems: her suck was weak, frequent spit up, constipation. She had a feeding tube place. I tried to breastfeed then supplement with formula till my breastmilk came in and gave her via bottle or tube. I became obsess with pumping since I felt this was the only way to help her get better!!! <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The lactation consultants were very helpful. They guided me with positioning and latching. The problem was I have flat nipples. They gave me a nipple shield to use. This helped with latching since I was starting to have crack and sore nipples, engorgement and mastitis on the left breast. I got very sick and feverish for about 3 days. I felt like I wanted to stop breastfeeding. I kept pumping to help maintain my supply. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So it got worst before it got better and I wanted to give up many times. I was disappointed that baby and I was not latching but I kept trying. At first I would only breastfeed for 15 minutes then offer expressed milk in the bottle then pump for about 15 minutes. This process was so long. I felt like I could not get anything done!!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As she got stronger she was able to suck better and stay on the breast longer to get her full feed from there without supplementing. We still used the shield. I would try to go without it but latching is still not so great. She is content after her feed. Poops and pees a lot!!! I would keep pumping after feeds to have a good stockpile of milk for when I go back to work. <span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">Baby feeds every 1-3 hours. At night she can go 3-5 hours. </span><span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);"> I have a oversupply of milk right now so I have to pump or I will get engorge. I try to simultaneously pump and feed to save time. </span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Breastfeeding in public has been interesting. I have breastfeed in a fitting room, car and in a restaurant. I have a pumped in the car. It's been awkward but gotta do it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875);">By 5 weeks of age we offered her the pacifier. At first I tried to offer it but she did not seem interested. Then we tried again and she seem to like it. I felt really guilty because I was afraid she would like it too much and have nipple confusion. But she still likes breastfeeding with the shield so no problems there. It's been a life saver on her fussy days!</span></div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Breastfeeding and pumping is not easy but I kept doing it. It's very tiring plus you need a lot of patience. Now that I will go back to work we will see how breastfeeding and pumping will go.</div>

<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I was 36 weeks and had an ultrasound on Wednesday October 16. The doctor had scheduled to induce me for October 20 due to my recent diagnosis of preclampsia. He mention the possibility of delivering early if baby was small. He estimated she was 5 pounds and a half. The perinatologist did my ultrasound and said she was 4 pounds 7 ounces which was too low and that I would have to be emergency induce due to intrauterine growth restriction from preclampsia. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I <span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">never wanted to be induce but for the safety of me and my baby I will do what I have to do. </span> I was allowed to go home to pack and eat. We ate Thai food before heading back to the hospital. I had stuff chicken wings, spring rolls, pad thai and jerky. It was so good!!! Last good meal before I delivered!!! Who cares about checking my blood sugar!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
When we got back I was placed in the same room from the last time, labor room 7. I got stick 2x trying to get a IV. They check my cervix and I was 3cm. I was started on pitocin since the ob-gyn staff did not think I need the cervidol or misoprostol. I was only allowed clear liquid diet and they kept checking my blood sugar. My blood pressure was not high at first but during the night it started to act up so I was started on magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures that could occur with preclampsia. It made me feel very horrible. Felt hot and like I got ran over by a bus or just finish doing a marathon or hike. I was so drowsy. I started to have some contractions but they were not painful, just uncomfortable. I had more back pain since I was not allowed to move around, only could stay in bed and move side to side. I look forward to getting up every hour to pee. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Thursday morning they did a cervix check and decided to stop the pitocin since I was not dilating, I was still at 3cm. They finally gave me misoprostol x3 to soften my cervix. <span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">I was allowed to eat but had to stay bedrest. One day went by, even though I still had the magnesium drip, I felt good</span>. I started to have bloody show so I was most likely more dilated. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">Friday morning they let me shower, did a cervix check and I finally was 5cm. They restarted my pitocin. </span>The contractions got more painful and my blood pressure started to get higher. They had to give me hydrazine couple times again. They ask me if I wanted an epidural since it could help me with my blood pressure but I chose not to have one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The midwife finally checked me and I was 7cm dilated. They decided I should have my water bag broke to speed the labor since my blood pressure was getting too high. They also did my labs to check my liver. I was diagnosis with HELLP syndrome: <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="text-align: left;">H</span><span style="text-align: left;"> </span><span style="text-align: left;">(hemolysis),</span></span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">EL</span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"> </span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">(elevated liver enzymes) and</span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"> </span><span style="text-align: left;"></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); display: inline !important; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="text-align: left;">LP (low platelet count). I never realize at the time the symptoms I was having was related to the preclampsia and HELLP syndrome: nausea and vomiting, epigastric/heartburn pain, bleeding nose, swollen legs. I couldn't tell if I was having headaches or blurry vision since I took my contacts out and was closing my eyes most of the time. I was having more rectal pressure like I had to poop and tried but no poop. Must be baby coming down, but it was hard not to push it was getting more uncomfortable not really much painful.</span></div>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="text-align: left;"></span></div>
<div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); display: inline !important; text-align: -webkit-auto;">

<div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); display: inline !important; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="text-align: left;">My bf, sister, cousin Lisa and my BF sisters were in the labor room with me. I almost never notice who was there I was so concentrated about labor and upcoming birth. I started to feel unsure about things and doubt my plan. I wanted a natural birth free from Meds, but it was not going that way. I was thinking maybe I should ask for pain Meds since the recital pressure was irritating me. I kept telling everyone in the room "I dunno what to do!" since I was told not to push. Finally the nurse did a final cervix check and said if I push a little I will be fully dilated. They started to prepare the room for birth. They open te birth table with supplies and turned on the newborn warming bed. </span></div>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="text-align: left;"></span></div>

<div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); display: inline !important; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="text-align: left;">It was time to push and everyone was supportive. Pushing is kind of awkward. They say push like you need to poop or like your holding your breath going under water. You gotta imagine pushing out and up so baby can get through the pelvic. I dunno how to push, I just did. It was not easy. I could see why someone would give up and get tired. Thank God during the pushing part my blood pressure was stable!!! The ob dr, midwife and neonatal team came to mh room in anticipation of delivery. I think after about 5 tries+ of pushing I finally pushed out baby Jazlyn on Friday October 18 at 9:57pm.</span></div>

<span style="text-align: left;">Since she is a late preterm with low birth my bf did not have the opportunity to cut her cord. They rushed her to the baby warmer to assess her. Her APGAR score was 7/9, weight 4 pounds 6.9 ounces and was 17 inches. Her temperature was stable and said she could stay with me in mother baby, she did not need to go to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). I was able to bond with her and tried to breastfeed too!!! Definitely a very life changing event for us!!! I was in disbelief I actually pushed this baby out and </span></div>

<span style="text-align: left;">Shortly after changing to the mother baby unit the nurses were concern about baby unable to keep her temperature due to her being so little. The pediatrician was notified and she was sent to the NICU after 4am. I was sad but it was for her health. I couldn't go see her since they were still monitoring my blood pressure and I was still on the magnesium drip. </span></div>

They did not discharge me right away because my blood pressure was too high most likely from stress. I finally was able to leave on Monday. It was bittersweet since I would be leaving without baby I came to the hospital for her 11am and 2pm feeds and came with my bf for the 8pm feeds. They told me on Wednesday to bring in the car seat to test her breathing and took out her tube feeding that day. She stayed in the NICU till Thursday. We were so happy to finally bring her home. Now we can enjoy her.</div>

It's been over a week since I was pulled off work for modified bedrest. I like to keep myself busy, but it is nice to be off from work. I definitely feel less stress, but I imagine my blood pressure could still be high if I was still working. It is boring to lay around all day and do nothing. I look forward to getting out of the house for<span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875);"> my twice a week non-stress test and weekly obstetrician appointments.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I guess I haven't been as cooperative with the bedrest. I still run errands, cook, mild house work/cleaning and prepare for baby. Of coarse I am not going to over do it. I always check my blood pressure twice a day and its been high in the morning and night <a href="tel:140/90-100" x-apple-data-detectors-result="0" x-apple-data-detectors-type="telephone" x-apple-data-detectors="true">140/90-100</a>. I spot check it during the day and it is 130/80. The doctor has not made any changes to my blood pressure medications. I occasional get frontal headaches but its not painful. Swelling in my leg looks mild but I don't seem swollen anywhere else. Lately I been feeling bigger and more tired. My weight been consistent 179-182 pounds. I'm only allowed to gain 20 pounds total so I am glad never hit 186! I try to keep up with light exercise/walking/stretching including kegals, pelvic tilts, squats. I know it sounds crazy to keep doing it, but I don't want muscle dystrophy plus I need to prepare myself for childbirth too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
On Wednesday night my blood pressure was 160/100 but then went down. I figure it wasn't too high to go into labor and delivery so did not bother calling. They would want me to come in for 160/110. So next day I just stayed home and did my 5th 24 hour urine collection. I turned it in the next day and did my non stress test. Baby is still head down, very active with good amniotic fluid. I was a little stress this morning because my stupid passenger rare car door would not go up so my blood pressure was 140/100 in the clinic but better than Wednesday night's reading. Anyways went to my boyfriend work to get my car fix and my obstetrician calls me about my 24 hour urine collection being in the 300s. He diagnosis me with mild preclampsia, but says he wants to keep me pregnant until 37 weeks.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm <span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);">a little overwhelmed, nervous but I got to be positive, brave and take it easy. We can't do anything but relax and stay pregnant. I guess this means keep bedrest too!!!</span></div>

I started maternity leave early because of my blood pressure. I have pre-existing hypertension so this pregnancy had been high risk for me. In addition I was diagnosis with gestational diabetes. I failed my 1 hour and 3 hour glucose tolerance test, but my Hemoglobin A1C is 5.2 so it is just my pregnancy! I am not a diabetic!!! I have to check my blood sugars in the morning and 1 hour after meal. It's a pain, but at least it's just diet modification and no insulin.<br>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
September 17, my blood pressures have been running in the 140/90. I notified the doctor via email and had to do repeat 24 hour urine collection that week to check for proteins that could indicate preclampsia (Read more about it <a href="http://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/preeclampsia.html" target="_blank">here</a>). I have been doing a urine collection every trimester. First reading was in the high 300s, but second one was in the 200s. This third trimester urine collection proteins results was close to border line close 300s again, but I was NOT diagnosis with preclampsia. They just wanted to monitor me and make sure I had no symptoms of preclampsia like headaches, blurry visions, right abdomen pain and swelling. <span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);"> </span><span style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969);"> </span><br>

So far so good. Her heart rate is normal, her head is down and amniotic fluid is normal. I also had a follow up ultrasound. Baby is a little small, 3 pounds 12 ounces. The doctors and nurses said it is expected that babies are smaller when mom's have hypertension. I hope she gains more weight!!!</span></div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
Last week Thursday, September 27, before I went into work my night shift at the hospital I started having headaches and when I checked my blood pressure, it was 140/100! I took my medication Methylodopa 500mg. I went to work at the hospital and checked my blood pressure again and it was 150/110 to 160/120. I called Labor and Delivery department and had to go in. I notified the night shift supervisor and left work.<br>
<br></div>
<div>
Now I know how it feels like to be a patient. In August, I had a false alarm due to left side pain, headache and high blood pressure 140/90 but my labs were normal and I was sent home. This time I was admitted with an IV, fluids, fetal monitoring, lab draws and another 24 hour urine collection. They had to give me hydralazine 5mg twice to bring my blood pressure down. It did not come down right away so they gave me Labetalol 200mg. Finally my blood pressure started to come down, but sometimes comes up 130/90. I could not leave the hospital until my 24 urine collection was done and we know the results. I ate hospital food, had to get insulin when my blood sugar was more than 120 and watched MTV the whole day while going in and out of sleep. Being a patient is boring! The scary part of my day was when the obstetrician, perinatologist, and neonatologist, talked about delivering early if I had preclampsia to save me, but baby would survive, just be in the neonatal intensive care until breathing and feeding is stable. It was a scary thought, but in the end my 24 urine was in the 200s again. I did not have preclampsia and I was able to go home with new blood pressure to take at home, Labetalol 200mg. <br>
<br>
I was out of work until my next doctor appointment, but then my blood pressure was still up this past Monday morning at 140/100. So I called the doctor to ask if I should increase my Methylodopa back to 500mg since they changed it to 250mg, but they wanted me to go back to Labor and Delivery. I was in the hospital being monitor just for a few hours. My blood pressure kept going up and down, but they agreed they should increase my Methylodopa back to 500mg. No IV or labs done at this time. I was able to go home.<br>
<br>
On Tuesday I did my non-stress test in the morning. My blood pressure was still running high 140/100. Baby still head down, amniotic fluid is normal, but her heart rate seems like she is still sleepy 130-140s with not much acceleration in the 150s. They had to stimulate her couple times, and finally had to do an ultrasound to check her heart, breathing movement, and extremity movement. The perinatologist thinks the blood pressure medications is making her sleepy, but everything was normal. I went to the obstetrician that afternoon to follow up my blood pressure. The doctor decided I would benefit from modified bedrest and should be off from work until I deliver. He did discuss making sure I reach full term, induction and the possibility of c-section. I would have to be seen weekly to make sure my blood pressure stay below 160/110.<br>
<br>
So I got my doctor note and notified my work ASAP. It is definitely a blessing in disguise. I would love to work because we all got bills to pay and I wanted to save for baby, but at the same time I need to be stress free for me and baby and control my blood pressure so I don't get preclampsia and deliver early. The goal is to stay pregnant for as long as I can. I wanna make sure me and baby is healthy so if bedrest is what I have to do then we gotta do it.</div>

It was always a dream of mines to do this, but I never came around to sign up. I thought I would never be able to run it, but I did. I'm so happy I pushed myself to do this!!! It was great exercise and it supports charity. I decided to do this for my cancer patients and my cousin Lisa so I wore my F💀ck Cancer shirt proudly. <br />
<br />
I pick up running since July, but actively trained for the GAR in January. I use to hate running, but it helped jump start my weight loss. I was 169 lbs during the holidays and I was able to lose the holiday weight. I am now 162 lbs. <br />
<br />
This run was 8 miles. At first I can run about 4 miles pretty good, but more than 5 I seem to lose power and energy and just walk. I had to go longer distances for the run so In the last 2 weeks before the run I tried to pick up my distance. I feel very. accomplish that I was able to at least walk run 8 miles in 2 hours 30 minutes. I figure if I did the GAR in 2 hours 30 minutes I would be happy. <br />
<br />
During the run I pushed myself and was able to jog up to 6 miles. I slowed down to tie my shoe laces. I slow jog and speed walk up to 7 miles mark and jogged in till the finish. I felt like I had to pee so I held back on drinking water. I was shock when my official race score said I completed the run in 2 hours 9 minutes. I wondered if I did not stop and just jogged would I be faster?<br />
<br />
My 14 mile hike I did in July was definitely inspiring and pushed me to do this race, train for it and finish it. Come on if i hiked over the Koolau I can do anything ;). I'm definitely happy I did this and look forward to do more races and the GAR again!!! <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguCvrOKpOFgdbqm3D44MU1wkv1b6OziqroBN_2jfPIEVTEXsLqCuuUV-9CoRuEJA68kfrUdSV5OU4R-KK-LyciyWomWnrZfs7AQqpnFwdzk6eDmMxaLjiOIj_AJBO-g3yfkLIcz93bPI_5/s640/blogger-image--838607364.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguCvrOKpOFgdbqm3D44MU1wkv1b6OziqroBN_2jfPIEVTEXsLqCuuUV-9CoRuEJA68kfrUdSV5OU4R-KK-LyciyWomWnrZfs7AQqpnFwdzk6eDmMxaLjiOIj_AJBO-g3yfkLIcz93bPI_5/s640/blogger-image--838607364.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYjO74UcQ2Q_yfZoOkS8VSb_nZvigzxRaFkgfMtNvf2o_WvA8urXoohfuvwecaUAM8LK7jG9nERAaP7sd5KObEBhMxBFBvovSDZ8cNkiICdISNrD_w4MNx4PU6noQbHipBUiV83tAHvrQJ/s640/blogger-image--1262732913.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYjO74UcQ2Q_yfZoOkS8VSb_nZvigzxRaFkgfMtNvf2o_WvA8urXoohfuvwecaUAM8LK7jG9nERAaP7sd5KObEBhMxBFBvovSDZ8cNkiICdISNrD_w4MNx4PU6noQbHipBUiV83tAHvrQJ/s640/blogger-image--1262732913.jpg" /></a></div>JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7498128118332358919.post-28893634429767530122013-01-24T10:30:00.001-10:002013-01-24T11:53:16.282-10:00I'm sexy and I know itStarting operation sexy with my sister and friend Cherish. <br />

I used RunKeeper app on my iPhone to log some of my walks, runs, hikes. I was running and doing the Julian Micheal's workout pretty consistently until I moved into my townhouse. The running and working out pretty much stop.<br />
<br />
I spent most of my days fixing up my house. I also went back to school for my master which took up a lot of my time. I thought I was going to do bad, but I did good. I got an A for my first class. School and work took a lot out of me. I dropped my hours at work finally. My boss finally allowed it thanks to my coworkers all dropping and we were able to get my other coworker a permanent job. Anyways for myself it's different not to have the extra $800 but it teaches me to save money and be more resourceful. With school, even though I did good, I decided to take a break. The timing of school was not right especially since I have a mortgage to take care of.<br />
<br />
So with life happening exercise became not a priority. For the past 4 months of living in my townhouse adjusting to my new life it was a challenge. I have been trying to cook, eat healthy and just maintain a household on my own. My boyfriend lives with me and helps me out, but I can't always depend on him because of his job situation...<br />
<br />
Couple weeks ago I decided to get back into running again. Running help jumps start my weight loss better than me going to the gym. To keep me motivated I signed up for a charity run called Great Aloha Run. I always wanted to do it but never had a chance to do it. Trust me I was nervous to sign up and thought of backing out of it because it is a 8 miles run from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium. I suck it up and signed up and started running again. I'm happy I signed up. <br />
<br />
I have 4 more weeks till my run. I know I can do it. Before I stopped running I was able to run 4 miles but it was more of a walk jog and run for a short time. Just the past 2 week I have been able to jog straight 1-3 miles without stopping. The last 2 runs I was able to run for 5 miles . I am really proud of myself. I know it 4 weeks I will be able to run 8 miles!!!JENN JENNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17228985770308475001noreply@blogger.com0
